Personal Outfit (Cloth Shopping & Play Watching)

Was out on Saturday buying cloth for an upcoming cosplay that I'll be debuting during Cosfest. My friend, Kosmo, kindly showed me around Arab street and the Textile Centre as I'm not really familiar with the place, I tend to stick to Chinatown for my cloth buying needs.

Wore this comfy outfit there as I expected and did alot of walking around:

Purple hair tie: Can't remember
Lace dress: Cotton On
Purple Cardigan: Cotton On:
Grimoire Verum-inspired Butterfly print stockings: Taobao
Creepers: Taobao
Badge pin: Katie (forgot to take a closer pic, will do so next time)

Slightly better look at the stocking print. My creepers are insanely comfy, they're now my new fashionable walking shoes

Carried my new winged backpack, good thing too because it was extremely useful instuffing in my buys, I actually filled it to the brim!

Makeup that day, wore Dollywink No.2 lashes, no lower lashes, Canmake pink cream blush with Candydoll blush over it, highlighter, nose contour and slightly more pink lip colour. Didn't use bronzer though since I noticed most Cult Party girls don't contour much and actually prefer the rounder, more baby-faced look.

My buys for the day were lots of satin, cotton, chiffon, 3 different kinds of lace, 2 different bias tape and one roll of ribbon. Cost me close to $100, my wallet is cyring so bad right now. Anyone wanna guess which character I'm cosing?
Met my mom and sis for dinner, we ate at my favourite Ramen Champion and I had one of my favourite options, the amazing Bario Ramen. So sinful with the rich pork broth but sooooo yummy!!!

After dinner, we window-shopped abit before heading the the Drama Centre to watch:

The Importance of Being Earnest! Play written by one of my favourite writers, Oscar Wilde!!! The original flamboyant dandy and this play clearly reflected his personality and wit so well.

The play was so so good!!!! I was gripping my sides from laughing at nearly every single line and the actors were wonderful in their renditions of the characters. It was so witty and had plenty of satire, I just couldn't help but to laugh aloud. I also have to applaud the director's choice in having an all male cast for this play and none, not even the the "female" characters were cross-dressing during the duration of the play. The cast all wore Victorian-era styled suits in a simple setting with minimal props, but I could still witness the chemistry the actors had together and they were so convincing as lovers. Despite the more modern take on the casting, the use of a string quartet during and in between scenes helped to remind the audience that this was written in an era of classical music and rich excesses. I really applaud the entire cast and crew for such a wonderful show and how it's helped to take a leap forward for the LGBT community.

Personal Outfit (Wicked)

Last week, the bf gave me one of the best gifts ever! 2 tickets to see the musical Wicked!!

He even got front row view from the dress circle! So we had a totally unobstructed view of the entire musical.

I've wanted to watch this musical for the longest time but most of the time, the entire act is based in Broadway or in London so for them to come to Singapore is an amazing feat all on its own.

The play was amazing, I hung to every note and word during the entire play. I was completely riveted with their performance and felt kindda sad when the play ended, I could sit there all night and watch them if possible. I'm just alittle sad that I never got the chance to watch the original Glinda and Elphaba actresses, Kristin Chenoweth and Indina Menzel, singing on stage. However, to be able to watch this play is already one thing off my bucket list.

It was also my first time watching a play at the lovely Marina Bay Sands. I've been to a few plays at the Esplanande but the stage and theatres there are alot smaller with more seats crammed in. Not a very pleasant experience if you are unlucky and get horrible people seated next to you throughout a play.

It's always fun to dress up abit for the theatre. Sorry for the blurry pic, I was rushing to take it before the doors closed after intermission.
Dress: Spiral Girl

Stockings: Can't remember

Black floral pumps: Prada

Bag: Mety Darmali

Necklace (not seen): Vivienne Westwood

A closer look at the Mety Darmali bag with its signature corset-style ribbon detailing and whimsical 3D appliques. I love her bags so much however, they are quite pricey but its understandable since everything is stitched by hand.

The Bf also dressed up for the evening in his suit. Looking spiffy!

Bought the musical's program and a shirt as souvenirs from the musical. My mom has a different shirt that she got when she watched the musical with her best friend, so we can easily swap with each other.

Here's a video of the amazing original actresses for the 2 main characters in the show. Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda and Indina Menzel as Elphaba performing for the 2004 Tony Awards. If you're wondering why they look so familiar, Kristin and Indina have both appeared in the TV show, Glee. Indina is Rachel Berry's mom, Shelby while Kristin acted as a temporary instructor but she's also well-known for the black comedy, Pushing Daisies.

I'm actually rather lucky that my mom instilled a love for musicals and stage plays in me from a young age. I've been lucky enough to watch Miss Saigon twice, Cats before they retired, Phantom of the Opera, Joseph and his Technicolor Dream Coat and Oliver. I'm just waiting for a chance to catch Les Miserable as well as The Lion King.

I guess stage performances will always be a lifelong passion of mine and I'll never stop wanting to watch them.

World Runway Premiere (Fashionquake Aid 2011) Event

I managed to snag myself some tickets for the World Runway Premiere (Fashionquake Aid 2011) event, so I dragged along my friends, Josephine, Jeremy and Cockroach (that's her nickname, she's a major fan of Gazette). I was pretty starting to get pretty ill (still haven't fully recovered) but even my illness wouldn't stop me from attending such a major fashion event!

A slight background of the event, unlike its famous big sister, the Tokyo Girls' Collection (TGC), WRP is NOT a fashion event for brands to showcase their latest collections. Rather, it's a fashion tournament involving teams consisting of stylists, wardrobe assistants and makeup artists/hairstylists from 8 countries who compete to style their models according to the theme, which was "street-chic".

The teams came from Brazil, France, Italy, Japan, Russia, UK, USA and Singapore. They had to shop for their collection from local shops and had to keep within a strict budget (I think it was bout $500 per model).

Onto pictures! Though I apologise for them being so blurry, with my camera out of order, I had to depend on my crappy iphone pics, though jeremy did help me by taking some pictures too! So the less blurry pics are his. Do click on the pics for a bigger view, that way you can see the outfit and makeup details alittle better. >.<

If by chance anyone does take the pictures for whatever purpose (tumblr etc.) Please, link it back to this blog, I took an insanely long time editting the pics, joining them together and choosing the best of the many crappy ones I had. Thanks!

Most pictures are from the large screen because we were seated insanely near the side of the stage. It was fun because we were the "cheerleaders" and they gave us flags to wave about. The stage was like 2 "Y" joined together, and the entire team were judged on a few categories (styling, makeup, hair, walking, uniqueness, team presentation & creative vision) with the total score making up the final score. Only 4 teams were selected for the second round, and then the winner was chosen.

USA played with textures greatly. They layered alot and their models were often adorned with heavy jewellry that almost resembled medieval chains. Makeup consisted of intense contouring with blush and highlighting being overly emphasised coupled with dark eyes.

Italy focused more on strong colours and bold makeup. I loved the reddish leopard dress in the third picture, it was accesorized with a chunky gold belt that appeared to be made from thread spools or bangles, super creative! The model on the far right picture had feather earrings or hair acccesories, which is very on trend right now.

I felt that Russia failed totally in meeting the "street-chic" theme. Their look was soft and muted with a colour palette consisting of nudes and whites. It was very different and no doubt, stood out in its own way, but like I said, personally it failed to meet the theme. But I cannot deny that I loved their makeup so much! The models had soft, glowing porcelain skin with the barest of blush and liner to give it that ethereal, forest nypmh look. Their hair and makeup were accesorized with flowers, and I think gardening foam.

Brazil, was in no doubt the most fun of the lot! The models sashayed down the runway decked in colourful, blinged out clothes and waved and danced about. I certainly felt like I was attending an actual TGC with the models' fun antics. They even came down at the last moment carrying the Brazil national flag, a definite showstopper! Makeup was fun with lost of glitter shadows and eyeliner and fun pops of colours everywhere be it the lips, blush or just the amazing clothes.

From here on, the following countries were the ones that made it to the second round. The other countries that failed to make it assisted the other countries during the 20 minute interval that they were given to get the models to change into their new outfits and to freshen their makeup.

Honestly, when I first saw Singapore's collection, I thought they were the Japan team. The 2 pictures from the right came from their first collection, and the third picture is their second round collection. The models were decked out in alot of neon colours, Hello Kitty and hoodies with cat ears on them, the whole thing was alittle too "kawaii" for me. The second collection had little relation to the first collection other then having the same makeup and bright colours. Most of them were decked in cheongsam-inspired dresses that had the most garish prints on them, I seriously thought the outfits were more suited for getai singers (performers who sing, dance and perform comedic acts during the Hungry ghost festival, to entertain both the living & the dead who had returned) then a styling tournament

France on the otherhand, played it bit too safe in my opinion. Their outfits were fun no doubt, but in a more Friday office dress down getup kindda way but they were bang on trend with high-waisted shorts, polka dot patterns and vintage style dresses with waists being cinched in with a wide belt. Their makeup was obviously a nod to geishas with super pale skin and painted red lips and perfectly coiffed dark hair.

Japan reminded me alot of the dramatic antics of a John Galliano show. Models had their hair decked out with interesting headgears that seemed to be made of coloured netting and flowers and other random knick-knacks, all placed atop the models' perfectly pulled back hair in the most precarious manner. Models sashayed down the runway waving huge umbrellas and fans, looking sombre with their pale skin, kohl-rimmed eyes and stark black lips. Clothes were heavily layered, or in some cases, like the 2nd picture from the right, heavily adorned with amazing details and all of them had at least one material on them, somewhere, that had some kind of Japanese print on it, be it floral or Japanese cranes.

UK was the eventual winner (and my personal favourite!). It was a dead giveaway that the styling team was heavily influenced if not, paying homage to the late Alexander Mcqueen. Models had dewy skins, with the appearance of just a touch of makeup, nude lips and then heavily emphasised brows, with extra feathers and glitter foil attached to their brows. Clothes too covered the bare minimum, but had great amounts of detailing on them, with lots of metallic accents on them or a mixing of textures. They looked so futuristic and awe-inspiring, no photo does them complete justice, I am now deeply obssessed at finding out where the styling team got their outfits from, because I totally want the whole collection!!

At the end of the tournament, all the models and styling teams came onstage to await the results. UK walked away with a total score of 79, and became the first winner of the World Runway Premiere event.

The event was great fun, but alittle messy. Models were still practising their walks when my friends and I were let in, but then again, we were the "cheerleaders" so we were allowed in alittle earlier then others to get us to rehearse our flag-waving and cheering. Once, due to a technological malfunction, the timing went off-schedule and our host, Utt, had to come out and buy alittle time by interacting with the audience.

I was also really upset when I noticed about a 1/4 of the people attending the event were more interested in the Korean performing artist, se7en, then the actual event. They waved glowsticks aorund and suddenly the whole audience was so alive with fangirls screaming away when he performed. They promptly left, the moment his performance was over without even having the courtesy to wait alittle while more for the tournament results.

But no matter, as a trial for what's to become a major fashion festival for the next 5 years, it was done superbly and I'm glad that I had the opportunity to attend this event. Cross my fingers and hope that I'll be just as lucky next year!!

Personal Outfit 45 (Harry Potter!)

I finally got the chance to catch Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows last night! But to be honest, it's been so long since I last read any of the Potter books that I've clean forgotten the majority of the things that went on.

Honestly, after the first 4-5 books, I read the rest of the books only once when they had just been released as I simply borrowed from my friends the books after they were done with them and hence, it was more of a quick skim through the books then actually sitting down and absorbing the whole thing.

Onto outfit first:

Outfit:
White collared shirt: can't remember
Victoria Beckham for True Religion Denim Skirt: Discount store (serious!!!)
Foxtail: Taobao
Lace-up boots: Taobao
LV monogrammed bag: Borrowed from mom

So anyway, half the time in the movie, my mind was going '???', but it was enjoyable nontheless though I was left wanting more and going 'huh? That's it?'. The movie had to skim through alot of things in order to pack in as much of the book as it possible could so I'm still wondering how did they pack the rest of the book into the second part considering how much is still left. I'm sure I'm gonna cry when the Weasleys' house gets burned down I was so hurt and horrified when I read it in the book, I can't imagine watching it in the cinema...
Anyway, the movie went through more or less a somewhat rhythm like this: Bamg! Wham! Quiet moment. Sudden revelation at something. Blam! Okay, end... wait six more months for the next part (-______-)"

Japan Fashion Week Tokyo S/S 2011

In bout 2 days time, the 11th Japan fashion week will be rounding up its shows, parties and exclusive events. This is after giving us a glimpse into the newest trends of Spring/Summer 2011 which we all know, will soon filter down to other mainstream brands once magazines and press releases have decided which are their favourite looks.

This event is much bigger then before with a total of 42 different brands from various styles showcasing their newest collections, a much larger collection as compared to the 35 brands from the last 5 years that this event has been running on. There's even a joint exhibition being held by 9 of the brands.

To encourage audience participation, and to capture the unique essence of fashion that is Japan, there is a Fashion Photo Booth in thw website showcasing the audiences' and participants' outfits at the event. A great way to see the amazing street style that Tokyo is but of course, famous for.

Since the event is still going on, and there's still live shows available for online viewing, why bother reading my own personal, lopsided views about the clothes, shows and events? Just head on down and view it for yourself at: http://www.jfw.jp/en/aboutjfw/tv/

Tokyo Girls' Collection 2010 A/W Pt. 8 (Highlight Stage)

Last post on the TGC event and the one I was most excited about! These are the 2 brands who had their debut during th TGC event, so a pretty good way to gain exposure. Who knows, in the near future we may just see their names and clothes being splashed across various magazines, so Id keep an eye out for them!

I am ooh lala love with this brand! Lovedrose totally breaks typical Japanese brand fashion by choosing the elegant equestrian style for inspiration and instead of doing the usual bowler hats and fedoras this season, they chose to do the top hat instead! Lovedrose may well be a rule-breaking brand, but done with pizzazz and class but not boring-ly so... I'll be keeping my eye for this one..

AG by Aquagirl does more basic causal pices that merry comfort with style with loose flowy tops/dresses, I can see the mori gal influence there. The mother-child outfit combo is so adorable and the entire outfit in the second pic from the right is the result of the AG by Aquagirl X TGC collaboration. A nice outfit that is casual comfy, but not short on style

Finally, gotten eveyrthing up, hopefully I haven't disappointed anyone by not uploading everything immediately, and omg I totally forgot to mention this earlier, you can click on the pictures to see them in a larger size! It's actually better if you look at the details closely, I swear.
The giveaway is closed now, so I'll be announcing the winner soon okay?
Ugh just gimme awhile to recuperate, the photoshoot from the day before totally drained out all energy from me, imagine being in charge of wardrobe, makeup, photography direction etc. for 2 PVs for a whole 10 hours. It's not easy and extremely tiring, I can't imagine being the cosplayer, but it'll be my turn soon... hopefully it'll be less work... cross my fingers!

Tokyo Girls' Collection 2010 A/W Pt. 7 (AKB48 Stage)

Not quite sure what was the function of this stage since not all the girls from AKB48 went down the runway and they didn't list out the brands of the clothes they wore or anything. So... oh well.. I'm just the messenger...

Well at least, they gave me some outfits inspiration...

Tokyo Girls' Collection 2010 A/W Pt. 6 (Natural Casual Stage)

Both brands for the Natural Casual stage had red indian theme going on, with the feathers and such, seems more like S/S kindda style then A/W.

The model in the blue dress in the first pic IS a guy, but looks pretty good IMHO hahahahh! The only more wintery items I could find were capes and the fur coat from mystic

Heather had some cool travel looks going on, if only I could looks that good whilst travelling instead of a frizzy, swollen eyed mess. I predict the next things that are gonna take over the usamimi are the fur "ears" on a hooded coat or pointed, furry "ears" not shown here. The entire outfit sans the neckalce, gloves, shoes and socks in the first pic on the right is the product of the TGC X Hetaher collaboration

Nothing much new with these brands, but perhaps they're marching to the beat of their own drum.. so ther'es no reason to keep up with the trends then.

Tokyo Girls' Collection 2010 A/W Pt. 5 (Select Stage)

My laptop is acting up again, so quick posts on the remaining stages of the TGC A/W 2010 show okays?

Topshop had models with really fierce eyes and stained red lips sent down the runway. They chose to stick to their British style instead of adpating to whatever's popular in Japan, hence the not-so copy-cat lookalike looks.

Free's Mart celebrated thier anniversary recently and from the casual cool clothes that they have in their collection, I won't be suprised to see many more celebrations in the future. TGC X Free's Mart collaboration created the long plaid dress/coat with fur vest on the first pic on the right

Beams too was casual cool, loving the outfit in the second pic from the left, so Mori gal-esque! The white dress and fur vest in the first outfit from the right is a TGC X Beams collaboration creation, love the tiffany blue pillbox hat, gives it a touch of vintage

Another Edition was vintage glam but up-to-date all the same, the fur trimmed hodded cape is sooo gorgeous! I want one! An idol (can't remember her name) modelled the TGC X Another Edition dress that comes with a furry neck warmer with fur gloves attached!

On to the Natural Casual stage....

Tokyo Girls' Collection 2010 A/W Pt. 4 (Elegance Stage)

Last stage for today guys, I'm totally spent from spending all day choosing and slowly editing all the pictures. This one is the Elegance Stage and true to it's name, the outfits were all elegant and classy-looking, something I can imagine the rich housewives of Japan donning when they step out for tea and shopping.

31 Sons de Mode had a very muted colour palette which they kept throughout their collection, but it was far from boring. Over the knee boots and thigh high socks kept the looks from being staid and boring. The fedora and polka-dotted dress on the first picture on the right are from the TGC X 31 Sons de Mode collaboration.

Initally when I saw all the white floral outfits that L'est Rose had sent down the runway, I was thinking "oh no, not another Liz Lisa-ish floral crazy brand", but the Chanel reminiscent tweed outfits that came after roused my interest in the brand and my personal favourite is the second outfit from the left. Some of the models had teddy bears matching their outfits, very cute! I'm loving the L'est Rose X TGC collaboration item too, the floral dress with the attached vest on the first picture on the right is sweet but not sickeningly so as the red over-the-knee boots toughen it up abit.

I highly suspect Apuweiser Riche had a very fashionably elegant schoolgirl in mind when they designed this collection. Cardigans, plaid skirts and thigh high socks were aplenty but not juvenile in anyway, I bet Blair from Gossip Girl would approve! The ribbon cape and sweet floral dress are TGC X Apuweiser Riche collaboration items, kindda mori girl influenced I think. Not to mention, Apuweiser Riche just opened their new store in Marui City Shibuya 4F!

I'll continue again tomorrow if not the day after with the rest of the TGC 2010 A/W show, there's still so much more pictures for me to slowly sift through, select and put together so be patient okay?

Be back ASAP!

Tokyo Girls' Collection 2010 A/W Pt. 4 (Designer's Stage)

The Designer's Stage showcased 4 different brands. The designs they sent down were catered for the older crowd, with serious, classic pieces that had a little twist here and there unlike the previous trend-led pieces of the Trend Stage. The models were also slightly more mature looking and there were a number of foreign/mixed-blooded models.

Mecuryduo had most of their models wearing a sun hats and wrist gloves, very lady-like. Hair was left long with soft curls, overall a very elegant, lady-to-lunch kindda effect. The first picture on the right showcased the coat and floral dress that was the result of the TGC X Mecuryduo collaboration.

Smork adored scarves and alot of dresses had prints or an actual scarf draped down. Love the cute couple outfit with plaid to tie them both together. TGC X Smork collaborated to produce the sweater dress and nordic leggings on the first picture on the right.

Blondy was very lady-like with ruffles, lace and floral added into most of their outfits. TGC X blondy's collaboration produced the very snuggly-looking red knit dress worn by the model on the first picture from the right.

Snidel parian chic with lots of elegant flared skirts and well-cut trousers, they had a large amount of outfits that they sent don the runway and most if not all the models were halfs or foreign ones. Their outfits look so well-cut and styled that they could probably do pretty decent on an international level. TGC X Snidel created the cute sweater, flared skirt and orange hosiery outfit, that's an outfit I don't mind having in my wardrobe!
I'm loving the pieces put out by the brands in the Designer's stage. They were mostly classic pices with a twist that could be worn for years to come. With this, I'm really looking forward to the other Stages!

Tokyo Girls' Collection 2010 A/W Pt. 3 (Partner Stage)

There were 2 brands on the Partner stage, my guess is that they were major sponsors or something for the event, hence labelled as "Partner".

First was GOTTO3, lots of bustiers, damaged jeggings and skin. Added in a cute factor by bringing the little girl with matching attire

Second Partner was Aoyama Suit Collection, something for Office ladies and gents in the crowd. The men looked spiffy in their suits and tie, but I think the women could do better with some colour or jewellry.

Next up is the Designer's Stage! So stay tuned for more!

Tokyo Girls' Collection 2010 A/W Pt. 2 (Trend Stage)

The first brands to walk down the runway of the TGC 2010 A/W event were Miasion Gilfy, muse muse by ROYAL PARTY, Liz Lisa and Cecil Mcbee. These were grouped under the trend stage and showed off their latest stuffs that are hip and trendy and up-to-date.

Maison Gilfy went down first and opened with Anna Tsuchiya (above left), the other 2 pics was part of their collection. Love the leopard coat! Its a TGC X Maison Gilfy collaboration special!

Next was muse muse by ROYAL PARTY, they upped the celebrity factor by sending Tsubasa down. They also added colour and a fun factor by having the models sashay down the runway with balloons, flag and oversized shopping bags. The third picture from the left, the furry beret, vest, high waist shorts and lace thigh highs are TGC X muse muse by ROYAL PARTY collaboration items.

Liz Lisa showed their signature floral touch, but and chose to remain with a white background but added furs to winter-ize. The fur/floral cape is simple adorable! The ribbon socks on the first picture on the right can be yours by simple buying the Liz Lisa mook!

Cecil Mcbee was last on the trend stage, showed some plaid, floral, furs, one-pieces etc. pretty diverse selection of trend-led items. The leopard jacket and damaged jeggings on the second picture from the right are TGC X Cecil Mcbee collaboration items.

There are still a number of stages left so I'll try to upload them up as fast as possible kays? So come back for more!

Andrea Boccelli Concert

The view from my spot, despite it being so packed, there was enough space for every inidividual to have some personal space and no one was blocking anyone's view of the screen.

A great many things have happened since the last time I blogged, one of which was having the opportunity to actually watch Andrea Boccelli perform "live".

The sad thing was that I could only watch his performance via huge screens whilst sitting down on wet grass as the performance area was reserved for the VIPs and such. But hey, since its free and technically he was performing as I watching, it wasn't too bad.

The organisation that brought him in was also pretty considerate, I was simply expecting some people to shove us into the allocated areas in front of the screens, but they actually provided us with goodie bags loaded with useful things such as bottled water, snacks and even a mosquito repellant patch, which was a great lifesaver.

Despite, the heat, humidity, soggy wet grass and such, I was glad to have been able to watch the performance. All the more so when they announced that it was the last Asian performance that Andrea Boccelli was ever gonna have.

It was one unforgettable night....

Harajuku Street Style Event at Singapore TANGS

If it isn't obvious enough just how popular Japanese brands and culture are becoming in Singapore, one only has to look at the long queues that snaked through the malls when UNIQLO opened and how big the local cosplay scene is becoming.

This has made certain fashion groups notice this change and one of them has acted on this popularity, TANGS PlayLab has created a showcase that has been dubbed Harajuku Street Style, it'll showcase some of the top Japanese casualwear brands from January 15th to 31st 2010.

This showcase will present consumers with a unique "onestop" opportunity to check out labels from prominent designers and Japanese brands that have never before been seen in Singapore. The brands that will be shown include, Urban Research, COEN, KISUKE, Momotaro Jeans, BARCLAY, OLIVE desOLIVE and many more...
A bonus factor is the special appearance of celebrity Japanese street style photographer, Rei Shito. Previously a model who appeared on CM, Music PV and Tokyo Collection, she now prowls the bustling streets of Tokyo in search of unique street style and budding trends for Japanese magazines such as 'Street', 'Fruits' and 'Tune'.

There'll also be several Japanese hairstylists who'll be joining Rei at the event to select 10 guests for a makeover at the event and supposedly a "Best Dressed" competition with the winner walking away with tickets to Japan.
