Being Touristy

Globe-trotting gyaru, Kayo, was back in town for a week or so a few months back. it was fun being a tour guide and showing her around town like before, though it was more of a shopping/ sight seeing trip this time, unlike the food driven trip last time.

Started the day with brunch a la Singapore style:
Half boiled eggs mixed with dark soy sauce and white pepper, Kaya (coconut jam) and butter toast with strong coffee

It was amusing to hear Kayo comparing the eggs to Japan's onsen eggs, and she loved the strong coffee.

After that, we headed to Haji Lane, as she had read up about it online.

Tourist shot! My face looks really weird here

Steph's tattoo artist, Kevin, helped to take this picture after we popped by his store to cool off due to the intense heat.
My outfit consisted of:
Inner shirt: Uniqlo
Lace Nightie: Taobao
Shorts: Lowry's Farm
Stockings: taobao
Denim Jacket: Calvin Klein
Badge: taobao
Shoes: Random shop in Holland Village
Hair clips: Sasa

Final shot before Steph had to leave for the day

It was fun catching up with Kayo again and hopefully, I'll get a chance to head to Japan and she'll be my tour guide the next time we meet.

Party, Concert, Shopping & Valentine's Day

February has been a busy month for me, so I haven't been able to update this blog much. Nearly every weekend was packed with stuff so I have compiled them into this quick post. Will have a more updated post soon.

Went window shopping with my mom and ended up walking away with a pair of Vivenne Westwood shoes that were on sale. Hmm....
Outfit:
Striped top: Can't remember
Skirt: Lowry's Farm
Scarf: The Body Shop
Satchel: Taobao
Boots: Payless

Attended Daisy's 21st birthday party. Spent the entire night clubbing then chilling in the cramped hotel hotel room while gossiping and waiting till morning to grab some amazing Tim Sum. Really fun night with some great guy friends.

Attempted to straighten my permed locks to see how long my hair had grown out. I liked the semi-wavy look that resulted.
Outfit: Top: Lip Service
Jeans: Uniqlo
Heels: Bought in KL
Necklace: Vivienne Westwood

Picture of the people at the party. Really fun night though I think I'm getting bit old for clubbing.

Attended the amazing Spirited Away - The Music of Joe Hisaishi concert. His music always stirs memories of childhood dreams, innocence and feelings of gentleness. The Singapore Symphony Orchestra did an excellent job of performing his music.

Lots of friends attended the event, but most of us bought our tickets separately, so many of them were dotted all around the concert hall. Luckily I bought a bunch of tickets for some people, so we could sit altogether. Also brought my two little Jiji toys and Tessie brought her Calcifer toy.

I wore a somewhat jumbled together "cosplay" version of Kiki, or at least, how I think her wardrobe will look like when she's older.
Tunic: Marks & Spencer (linen & cotton mix with a weaved design on the front and brass coloured buttons)
White Jeans: Uniqlo (a more modest, grown up version of her white shorts)
Satchel : Taobao (a structured version of her bag)
Red heels: Salvatore Ferragamo (I actually doubt she's the kind who will wear heels unless compelled to, but I don't have red ballet flats and my shorter, round toed heels need reheeling, so these pumps had to do)
Ribbon Hairband: Taobao (her signature ribbon hairband in better quality materials)

Celebrated Valentine's day with the Bf with a sweet date. We had lunch at this lovely, french inspired restaurant called Poulet before watching The Lego Movie. Cute and inspiring movie with some serious animation with the use of lego bricks.

Outfit:
Black lace bustier: H&M
Tulle skirt: Forever21
Jacket: Jouetie
Beret: Acessorize
Socks: Cosmode
Pink studded garter: Creepyeha
Necklace: Osewaya

Some stuff happened recently in my life, so I'll be sorting them out for abit. I will definitely update as soonas I can while I sort these issues out. So apologies for the late post again, hope you guys understand.

Teatime with Steph

Steph and I met up the day before to catch up, we also had high tea at Antoinette. We shared the afternoon special set, it wasn't cheap but having been there before, I knew that it would be well worth the price and I was right. They gave us 3 tiers worth of goodness, a mixture of sweet and savoury buttery pastries for the bottom, savouries for the middle and tiny sweets at the top that were packed with flavour. I left the place stuffed to the brim.

It's hard to pick any favourites as they were all so so good!

Accompanied with tea to wash everything down. Mine was Porcelain Rose while Steph had Earl Gray

While we were there, these 2 ladies of leisure who were sitting at the table next to us, asked if they could take pictures with us. It was totally surprising and extremely flattering.

Outfit:
Dress: Jouetie
Garter leggings: DollsKill
Wig: Taobao
Floral headband: Taobao

Flower Princess and her super fashionably decked out bodyguard hahahahha

Been itching to wear my black lipstick out on a normal day. Its an Anna Sui Limited Edition that I had bought for cosplay ages ago. I also placed my blush right below my eyes and above my cheekbones.

Did some window shopping and I spotted a lipgloss that I will probably get next month. I did go home with these babies though:

Leather engineer boots from Payless to replace my previous pair that had crumbled away. Hoping it'll be as comfortable as my old pair so that I will be able to use it for travelling and stuff.

Been focusing on work as I really wanna be converted to permanent staff soon, I do mess up occasionally but I'm really crossing my fingers and hoping they'll just give me a chance. If they do, I'll be able to save up for more cosplays and a trip to Japan. So praying really hard!

Happy Chinese New Year!!

Hey guys! Wanna wish all of you a Happy Chinese New Year!! Or Happy Lunar New Year!!

Found this lovely art on Tumblr celebrating the year of the Horse. Couldn't trace the original source though :(

Unfortunately, my favourite uncle from my dad's side passed away the week before, so I was pretty upset and mildly depressed as his passing really took me by surprise and hit me extremely hard. I also felt letdown by some of my closest friends so it took a toll on me emotionally. With the passing of a family member so close to the Lunar New Year, traditionally I'm not allowed to participate the festivities, so I couldn't go house visiting and stuff as superstition dictated that I may bring bad luck to the houses I visit. Felt kinda bummed out by the whole thing so I've been going out quite a fair bit to stop myself from wallowing in misery, so get ready for the barrage of outfit shots!

Went out with my mom and sis on the first day of the new year to watch the movie, Her. Quite interesting and I love Scarlett Johanssen's voice.
Outfit:
Lace Dress: Cotton On
Jacket: Jouetie
Bag: Nadia
Corsage (on bag): Katie
Platform sneakers: Taobao
Silver circle glasses: Taobao

Visited my uncle's place (bro of my passed on uncle so the superstition doesn't apply) and played with his cute dogs and met some aunts on my dad's side. They still gave me red packets despite the superstition saying I shouldn't ask for them as they used the loophole that they're giving it to me before I asked for them LOL.
Outfit:
Dress: Ehyphen Gallery X Amo
Necklace: Osewaya
Butterfly hair clip: Stall at Comic Fiesta

Visited my maternal grandparents' graves and then explored a shopping mall with my parents in the evening. The beanie makes my hair look like those shaggy dos that emo kids adore.
Outfit:
My Little Pony Shirt: Stall at cosplay event
Polka dot shorts: Gift from Steph
Cardigan: Cotton On
Large Badge: Katie
Necklace: Taobao
Beanie: Maison Gilfy

Met the bf today for a date out. We explored a fairly new mall and then watched Robocop. The movie was alright, lots of action but I felt it could have been better. Ended the night with a Chili's ribs dinner while watching an ice hockey game happening at the ice rink right in front of the restaurant. I also wore red lips again after so long. I also tied my hair into tiny twin tails to kinda celebrate Twin Tails Day in Japan, though I'm a day late as the actual celebration day is on 2nd Feb because 02/02 looks like the side profile of a face with twin ponytails
Outfit:
Leopard Beret: Accessorize
Shirt: Candy Stripper
Shorts: Unif
Dolfie joints Stockings: Bought from friend
Badges on Beret: Free gifts from taobao
Necklace: borrowed from Mom

I'm lucky that my workplace has given me a week off to celebrate the New Year so besides catching up with family, the bf and friends, I'm hoping to clean up my pig sty of a room and also progress bait more on my 3D Maneuver Gear. If I do complete it, perhaps I'll post a instruction post on how I made mine, though there are plenty of DIY instructions on making your own 3D gears already out there on the net. I'll see how it goes I guess... till next time! Have a happy horse year!

Comic Fiesta 2014 Day 2

Day 2 of Comic Fiesta was another simple cosplay, this time as Super High School Level Idol, Maizono Sayaka from the game/anime Dangan Ronpa.

After the excitement and chaos of the first day, I was ready to find friends and truly explore the artists booths for artworks.

Camwhore! With Esther in the background hahaha. I had forgotten to take a full length pic though

Lawliet doing a fanart Lolita version of Levi from Shingeki

Playing around with her partner En Qi, who was cosplaying Eren.

Fuwa did this amazing gijinka version of My Little Pony's Nightmare Moon.

Check out the details!! And those cute wings!

Found this sweet couple decked out in Steampunk attire and gear

After the event, we hung out abit with some of the Malaysian cosplayers. It was fun to finally see them again and to finally meet them in their home turf instead of vice versa.
Kidnapped and bullied Gabby's cute dolphin plushie during the day. We later stuffed it into a hole in his backpack.

Had a party in a friend's hotel room and a new friend drew this adorable cat on my cup to help differentiate it from the others.
Had breakfast in bed with some yummy room service breakfast on the last morning of my trip.

Old friends and new! Its always nice meeting new people with similar interests at events.
Took a night flight home. It was a short but fun trip

I did quite abit of shopping during the trip, these are just the clothes I bought there. I also bought a necklace and 2 kimono print butterfly hair clips during the event. You can find pictures of them in my Instagram. The most expensive of the lot is definitely the Guilty Crown shirt which I bought at the official Redjuice booth at the event. It's my first official anime series shirt (besides my other Uniqlo collaboration versions) and when I was purchasing it, one of the Japanese minders at the booth said he liked my cosplay of Hime and took a picture of me. It was rather flattering.

I hope to be able to go back to Comic Fiesta again this year, possibly with more dramatic cosplays, however, I am trying to save money for a trip to Japan too. We'll see when the time comes.

Shopping & Tea

Jo was in town last week so I took the opportunity to catch up with her and to also finally try out this amazing cafe I had heard of for months called, Antoinette Cafe.

Food! Glorious Food!!!!! We were quite full so we decided to share our food, but we didn't realise the portions were gonna be this huge! We shared Honey Baked Ham sandwich that came with super crisp Honey Mustard chips, Crepe with Parma ham, egg and cheese and topped with fresh salad, French style fluffy pancake with Strawberry compote and whipped cream. I also had a pot of Earl Grey d'Antoinette, which was quite light and sweet unlike conventional earl grey teas.

We did some some window shopping after the tea and we wandered into Topshop to have a look. Found some uh... shall we say... interesting(?) clothes from a collection they did with some designer.  Jo and I decided to try some of the dresses from the collection just for the fun of it.

Some Nightie looking dress. Looks pretty decent and might look good with some proper styling

A tunic/top with a crazy print of eyes and hearts. It looks like some kinda disease to me to be honest, or maybe because I detest red dots a lot.

Some kinda frilly top/tunic, I know it'll probably look good if done some styling a la cult party style, but for now, it just looks like I'm wearing an oversized baby dress

Jo trying out this over the top frilly jacket that cost.... wait for it.... $500!!!! Technically $499 but still!!! It is pretty in it's own way, unfortunately the picture doesn't show just how tacky shiny it is, though I am kinda starting to like it the more I stare at the pic hahaha

Walked around the new Robinsons Building, previously known as Heeren. The whole place is completely different now and though I miss Heeren being a youth hangout zone, it is refreshing to see some life brought back to the building with the knocking down of walls and installing new floor layouts and light fixtures. Took this picture from the 3rd floor of the building as I was looking down at the snow globe installation.

Outfit that day:
Jacket: Jouetie
My Little Pony Shirt: stall at cosplay event
Lace Shorts: Heather
Lace trimmed floral print Socks: Daiso
Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell
Choker: JRunway
Bag: Lip Service

Work is robbing me of brain power and will to blog once again. I'm just tired every time I reach home and I now wind up eating dinner and then zoning out in front of my laptop, even editing my cosplay pictures seem like such a monumental task now. Even so, I will still update the blog, I just pray you'll be patient with my slow uploads.

Outfit of the Day: Pie Date

Bf and I went to check out this hip, not-so-new eatery called Windowsill Pies. Its a quaint, cosy eatery and was fairly packed that Sunday when we went.

Of course we ordered pies, mine is the Morello Cherry while the Bf's is Grasshopper. Mine was filled with cherries and had this lovely sugared shortcrust that complemented the tart flavours of the cherries. The Grasshopper was a chocolate cake base, mint cream and surprising little nuggets of salted cookie crumble on top and sandwiched between the cake and cream portions.

Ordered the Eggplant Tower as I was famished, however, I didn't expect the plate to be this huge! It was like an entire eggplant sliced and coated with breadcrumbs and fried and then smothered with a tomato sauce. I couldn't finish the entire plate despite tasting so good, so the Bf helped out and despite usually disliking eggplant, he actually liked it!

Bf's Mocha, kinda meh... nothing really special

My chai latte, wished the spices were stronger

It was the first time in a long while that I felt cheerful and happy that day. I wasn't quite sure what to wear, so I settled on something simple.

Woolen Sweater: Uniqlo
Shorts: Spiral Girl
Satchel: Taobao
Velvet Ribbon Hairband: Taobao

Camwhore that day. The ribbon and my short hair reminded me very much of Kiki from the Studio Ghibli film, Kiki's Delivery Service. I'm actually quite tempted to cosplay her haha

It was a fun and fairly relaxing day, just what I needed after leaving the unpleasant situation I was in. My moods still yo-yo quite a fair bit, I could be cheerful and happy one moment and then I'm depressed and crying the next. I'm trying to get back and my feet and its taking me longer then I anticipated, but no matter what, tomorrow always comes and I still have to keep putting one foot in front of the other, no matter how slowly, in order to move on.
