Comic Fiesta 2014

Last cosplay event of 2014!!! I once again headed up to Kuala Lumpur for the Comic Fiesta event as I really enjoyed myself last year.

Took a bus ride this time instead of a plane.  Got super awesome reclining seats with leg rests so it was really comfy on the way over.

During day1, Selicia, Jo, Candy and I cosplayed characters from Shingeki no Kyojin. I was surprised at the reception we got, as I figured that people were already sick of seeing Shingeki cosplayers

On day 2, Jo, Zephyous and I debuted our cosplay of the movie Redline. If you haven't seen it yet, you really must sit down and ready yourself to be blown away by everything it contains! Exciting car races, handsome cool men, sexy car babes, super catchy soundtrack and did I mention, 7 years of hand drawn animation!!! I mean, no one bothers with hand drawn stuff anymore!!

Friends we met, Lokie and Vivianne, who are cosplaying characters from Space Dandy. It was hilarious to watch Lockie and Zeph engage in "hair war" they looked like narwhales clashing with their horns.

Met new people too and caught up with some like Cvy who was so adorable, and I finally got to meet Lenneth. She's someone I've admired for a long time for her dedication to cosplay and the skills she's developed through it. She was really laid back and funny.

Bought lots of styff, I really love walking around the artist booths at Comic Fiesta, the quality of work an creativity are amazing. Favourite buys are the top left poster (which i plan to frame and display soon), the Sailormoon artbook, Sailormoon cleaning cloth (that I now bring with me everywhere I go) and the Rex Regrets poster. Rex Regrets is a super hilarious local comic about a T-rex and the problems he encounters due to his large head and small arms, the artist is really fun in real life and was really sporting in personalizing posters when autographing them.

Favourite thing to do at a hotel is to use the bath tub. This time, I came equipped with an Evangelion bath salt packet that Esther had gotten for me ages ago. My Japanese is horrendous, so I can't read bout the benefits it has, but it did leave a lovely purplish hue in the water and my sensitive skin felt softer after the bath.

Ate like a king during my trip, these are just some of the food that I actually remembered to take a pic of.

An overnight cosplay event isn't an event unless you're partying the night away. The place to be is of course, the ever elusive Shatter Dome. Lots of gossip, drinks, laughter and even famous Filipino cosplayer, Liui Aquino, known for his Hiccup, Jack Frost and Hiro cosplays, popped by. I didn't bother to take a pic with him as I was too tired by then.

A local friend, June, took us to this amazing Mexican bar called Calavera. The decor was a mixture of Rockabilly, steampunk piping, and lots of Sugar Skull motifs tossed all around. The drinks were top notch and the music and vibe even better.

Pic of the amazing gang I travelled with. From left, June, Jo, Marvin, Rescend and me.

My friend Kaika also took this video of the event. See if you spot me, though I have to say, I didn't mean to look so constipated and nervous, I was just worried bout looking bad as this was my first ever cosplay that showed my tummy, an area that I'm not too fond of showing on a regular basis.

I'll probably be slowing down abit on cosplay as I wanna save up money to travel and get things settled for the future. I most certainly will not stop, but priorities change sometimes I guess.

Cosfest 2014

Cosfest is one of the cosplay events I look most forward to every year, partly because it's one of the bigger local events and also nearly everyone in the community chooses to stay in the nearby chalets, so at night the place becomes one huge party fest.

I chose to do simpler cosplays this year as I didn't have any team, and I didn't feel like stressing myself out with preparations due to the stresses I had from my last job.

Cosplayed as Reira Serizawa from Nana, and took this pic with Candy. Need to trim my wig's bangs abit more, but I love the texture of the wig.

With some of the people I admire in the local cosplay scene, Xiaobai, Kanasai and Cvy. All of them were cosplaying Vocaloids.

For day 2, I cosplayed as Celty from Durarara!!

With Jo and Jas, both cosplaying different versions of badass Major Motoko from Ghost in the Shell.

Managed to snag a chance to meet Yuegene Fay!! She had run out of cosplay cards by then, but she very sweetly autographed the back of my Celty helmet.

With Jo, Hana and Drefan while watching the stage performances. Drefan's cosplay was especially funny, he kept throwing and body slamming willing people onto a mattress as part of his wrestling cosplay.

Pic taken by Kappa

Pic taken by 8bitwonderland. We actually posed next to random black colour motorcycle and quickly scurried off to avoid being confronted by the bike's owner.

There were also many crazy fun stuff during the chalet too!

Esther brought her little birdy pal, Popcorn, to the chalet and word quickly got round bout her little feathered friend. Popcorn seemed to really take to Dan throughout our stay.

What's a party without awesome junk food?!! Nearly every room had different pizzas resulting in pizza deliverymen scuttling from room to room.

There's also Rescend's annual Cosfest parody video. This year's video was inspired by Hangover by Psy and Snoop Dog, see if you can spot me in the video (hint, I'm polishing my Celty helmet).

Besides the pain of being forced to leave midway through my day 1 cosplay to attend a ridiculous concert for work, Cosfest was as fun as I ever remembered it to be.

Funan Anime Matsuri 2014

Attended the small Funan Anime Matsuri event back in June, I think? I usually don't bother much with smaller cosplay events at malls due to my work schedule, but I made an exception for this event as one of my favourite cosplayers, Sakuya, was a guest for the event.

Cosplayed as Annie Leonhart together with my friends, Janice and Beverly. Together, we were the Titan trio.

Met some friends at the event

Had an incredible stroke of luck and managed to find Sakuya while she was backstage watching the stage performances. I kind of called out to her and she immediately turned around and was super friendly!!! She whipped out her phone and took this picture of us before I even asked!

More pictures once she escaped the barriers around the stage

Group photo with the other Shingeki cosplayers at the event.

Recreating the infamous Levi kicking scene

Bonus picture of her dusting the wall haha

It was such a pity that she had run out of cosplay cards (cosplay business cards) but I gave her mine and I'm just happy enough to have a chance to meet her and take a picture with her! It was also surprising that she was actually tiny in real life compared to how she's usually protrayed as such a masculine figure in her pictures. She's my height (I'm about 5 feet 1") and probably 2/3 of my size, which is sooo skinny!!! She couldn't really speak English but she made alot of hand gestures to communicate with us and my friends and I tried our best to speak to her in our terrible broken Japanese. Still, it was fun to be able to finally see her up close and personal in real life.

J- Obsession 2014

I attended the smaller cosplay event, J-Obsession, early this month and it was more like a gathering of friends to me then an actual event. I didn't really get my pictures taken during the two days I went but I had fun meeting up with friends and getting to know new people too.

Cosplayed as Junko from Danganronpa for day 1, and I'm glad I chose to cosplay that character as it was easy to move around the crowded event space. I also used a new push-up bra to create Junko's insanely large boobs and they were quite effective though I did get a pervert who kept openly staring at my chest. Ewwww....

For day 2, I went to the event space earlier to catch the latest movie of Tiger & Bunny.I definitely prefer this movie compared to the first one though I was annoyed with some changes made to the characters such as Origami Cyclone's awful hair!

Cosplayed as Karina again (Blue Rose's civilian clothes) for the movie and it never fails to surprise me at how people have completely no idea who I am cosplaying even if they are fans of the series. Sad but true fact.

Silly fangirl faces with the movie poster outside the cinema

I spent the day accompanying Alex and Mini who were cosplaying Barnaby and Kotetsu. Here's a perfect hubby & wifey moment hahahah

Met some other Tiger & Bunny cosplayers at the movie too

Friends that day and I finally got to talk with Peggy, one half of the amazing Peggy and Darcy cosplay partners. I felt so bad always not talking to her but to her partner despite him being from Aussie and she being local, but she recognised me and said Hi! Was also amused at Selicia's cosplay that day, her sad/puzzled brows made her look really adorable even if she was screaming or irritated. No one could take her seriously that day.

Mini's mini Wild Tiger figurine just hanging around on her suspenders

Jean is a natural Satsuki (from Kill la Kill), I mean look at her, she isn't even really trying.

This guy did a really funny cheap cosplay of Ragyo from Kill la Kill, gotta admire his guts

And omg!!! a super cute and utterly squishable chibi Ryuko, I wanted to hug her so bad

Khym Chi cosplaying as the male lead from the anime Kyoukai no Kanata, and trying to get me to wear a apair of spectacles (his obsession). Hell no!

Ended the day with Wild Tiger digging into some lime sherbet

I was also able to get up close and personal with the Japanese guest cosplayer, Naoya, during the meet and greet session. However, I once again got tongue-tied and didn't ask for an autograph or a picture with her. I'm really happy that I got her cosplay card, and it'll join my collection. I'm just incredibly happy that this is my third card of the amazing VENaS.S performing cosplay team of Japan as I managed to snag cards from 2 other members, Ginga Ion and Martha Asahi, awhile back!

Things haven't changed much for me thus far, been sending out resumes and getting occasional paid gigs for odd jobs. It's allowed me to experiment abit and experience things I wouldn't normally have if I was still working. One example was me acting in a small film production, I was a strict teacher and had only one line (one word to be exact!) but the experience was fun. I've signed up to play as an extra in another film production at the end of the month, but I haven't gotten news if I've been selected yet, so crossing my fingers!

Baby Metal's Concert

Hey guys! I am so so very sorry about how waaay behind I am with my posts!! I have a tonne of things to write about as I've been keeping myself rather busy lately.

Work's been rather tiring and to destress I end up packing my weekends with activities and despite recovering mentally, I wind up physically exhausted to do much else and the cycle continues. So kinda realised that I need to scale back abit and take some time off.

Anyway, I'll be writing bout the Baby Metal concert I attended late last year!

The band consists of 3 young girls who head bang to metal despite their outwardly cute appearance

At the concert venue. I hardly ever attend concerts but Steph managed to score free tickets so I figured why not?

The stage light show were pretty amazing that night

Video they showed midway through the concert. If you look closely, it's actually Singapore's Merlion and Marina Bay Sands structures hahahaah!! Steph and I were incredibly amused by it.

The concert was pretty short and I understand why, because the girl are fairly young so they don't necessarily have the energy and stamina to head bang and dance and jump around non stop, though they did give it their all during their performances. Their energy really roused the crowd and I quite admire them for being so into their performance.

It was generally an interesting concert. I hardly listen to metal but my dad does so I knew what to expect, however I found it kinda jarring to listen to the metal music only to suddenly hear screams of "aishiteru" and "kawaii" in the typical cutesy Japanese manner. It was quite unnerving for me, maybe because I'm not used to their style.

I was also quite upset with this group that started to violently mosh, I mean I understand the whole moshing thing at concerts, but these were the kinds of people who didn't do it with respect and just randomly hurled themselves at others. It was especially dangerous considering one guy had on a vest with at least two dozen or so metal studs and they were the sharp not rounded kinds of studs. I wanted to punch them when they kept banging into me and laughing at me, though luckily Steph quickly stepped in and dragged me to safety. Wouldn't have been cool if I did aim a punch at them.

Selca with my sister from another mother

Finally got to dress up Rokku gyaru style after so long! I was fretting bout how I was gonna style my hair, so the goggles came to the rescue!!

Outfit:
Inner Zip Camisole: Tutuha
Red off shoulder top: Tutuha
Ripped jeans: GoJane
Tattoo choker: Taobao
Spiked bracelet: Forever21
Rose chain link bracelet: Thrift store
Boots: Git from Blacklash

I really have so many things to update you guys about, so I hope I can finish writing my posts soon! In the mean time, hope you're enjoying 2014 and perhaps consider giving Baby Metal's music a whirl.

Gantz Photoshoot with Vampybitme

After the whole STGCC event, Vampybitme continued staying for a few extra days doing various shoots. I was lucky enough to assist in one shoot she did with local cosplayer Mintos. They both cosplayed Gantz, I haven't see the movie yet but I heard its pretty gd.

Rescend at work, setting up lights

Photog duty calls

Zander being one with the light stand

We switched locations and took some shots underneath this street lamp. The light and shadows made it look very dramatic.

Highlight of the evening was taking pictures with the Singapore city as the backdrop. Used a smoke machine to give the extra wow! factor.

Looking good!

Goofing off after the shoot

Thanks guys for letting me join the shoot.

We worked pretty hard late at night and into the morning to get the amazing night view of the Singapore cityscape as the backdrop for some of the photos. Vampybitme was really sweet and approachable and I still can't believe how down to earth and friendly she is!

I haven't done night shoots in forever as it screws up my body clock real bad, but the view was really worth it and suited Gantz so well.

Do keep a look out on Vampybitme's online profile as well as Mintos's for the resulting photos!
