Style Icon: Emilia of Pastelbat

Tody's style icon is non other then Swedish girl, Emilia. I don't follow her much, other then Instagram, but her outfits, hair and makeup always blow me away.

Beautiful hair colour, that was her natural hair by the way, and perfect makeup

Judging from most of the background of her photos of her outfits, I suspect she's a fashion design student, though I may be wrong. Her casual coordinates are also very cute

Another darker, simpler outfit from her, everything she wears is spot on perfect

What drew me to her Instagram was her fabulous cult party outfits, she manages to balance everything just right and despite the shorter hemlines and gathered waist, she hasn't lost the feel and look of a cult party style outfit

Another cute outfit from her, she also wears a variety of wigs to suit her styles. I'm amazed how well she pairs them with her outfits.

I first fell in love with the soft sweet cult party styles she had, but her darker, spunkier outfits proved she wasn't a one trick pony. Everything just looks meticulously thought out beforehand, no accessory ever looks out of place or that there's something lacking in her outfits. This girl has an eye for details.

Style Icon: Yuu Kamazawa

One of my key style icons that got me into my current looks is non other then Yuu Kamazawa, also known as Youchama the singer or Yuutuntun on Twitter.

Girl's got a knack for having fantastic hair in varying colours

She often makes her own accessories and clothes such as these adorable sunglasses

I first took notice of her when she kept appearing on Tokyofashion.com her unique style and eye-catching hair intrigued me

She does funky and sweet so well and it's amazing how she looks so good with  the different hair colours

One of the sweeter coordinates, she mixes alot of vintage and handmade stuff with store bought clothes, creating a truly unique look of her own.

Yuu truly moves to her own beat and wears whatever she likes. It's bit difficult to point down a single style of hers as she's constantly surprising me with her coordinates, but from what I've seen, she likes tights/socks and large accessories and ofc ourse, how could we miss her ever colourful hair.

She was the beginning of my shift from gyaru as I was constantly blown away by how funky she looked and how she managed to reuse the same coordinates in different ways to produce different looks.

You can find her at:

Her singer name is Youchama and she currently has a single out on itunes

Roses, Filigree & Personal Outfit

Accompanied Steph today as she got a new tattoo to fill in a space on her arm, she got roses and some filigree done which looked amazing!! The tattoo artist, Joseph, was also really fun to chat with throughout the entire process.

Drafting out the design on her arm
Starting on the outlines and apparently, its the most painful part of the process, Steph's face at times, was contorted in pain.

Taking a quick break after Steph was yelling "Chill! Yo, Chill!" to Joseph rofl!!

Starting on the shading in process, think Steph's arm was numb by then because she told me it wasn't hurting anymore.

Nearly done, looks amazing!

Shading in the filigree and rose at the back of the arm, Steph told me this part hurt quite alot

The end result!! Three beautiful roses with filgree all around it

It also wrapped around her other wolf tattoo, framing it very nicely. Joseph is seriously talented and he completed the entire tattoo within a couple of hours!!

When Steph was midway doing her tattoo, this guy came in asking for a tattoo of this anime character called Ichigo from the series Bleach, you can see how it looks like here. Despite being a huge anime fan, I'm still not entirely convinced bout having an anime tattoo. I've seen plenty of beautiful tattoos mostly from Sailormoon and Howl's Moving Castle but I dunno, it just seems bit superficial for something that will stay with you for the rest of your life. But it's its body so whatever floats his boat I guess.

On a side note, I took the opportunity to dress up abit for the day, and wound up with this somewhat Lolita style outfit, though it wasn't intentional.

Pussy bow blouse: Osmose
Tulle skirt: Forever 21
Heart print stockings: Topshop
Mary-jane wedges: Rubi
Hair ribbon barette: Salvation army
Charm bracelet (not seen): Dior
I tried to do Zipper style makeup with the intensified blush just below my eyes but I guess it's either I didn't put enough blush or my Iphone camera washed it out or a combination of both. I also used super simple Dollywink otona lashes just to add some volume to my lashes though the camera can't really pick it up.

I may eventually stop wearing iris-enlarging lenses for my daily and fashion wear since I will no longer be using such heavy lashes though of course I will still use them for cosplay purposes. It just looks odd to wear 14.5-16mm lenses when I'm not wearing heavier lashes to balance it out and I find the resulting look plain scary. I'll probably move onto lenses that are 14-14.2mm or maybe 14.5mm but without the black limbal ring so as to appear more natural. Though of course, I'll miss the enlarging effect.

Camwhore with Steph after her bf, P, came down to meet us for dinner and we later chilled at a nearby Starbucks for abit.

Tagged: Hair

Feeling crummy again so I figured why not distract myself with a light-hearted post :/

Was tagged by Mitsu of Universal Doll bout the topic: Hair

Rules:
1. Note the person who tagged you and link him/her.
2. Write 8 facts about yourself which suit to the topic the “tagger” chose.
3. Tag 10 other people.
4. Inform the people who you tagged.
5. Choose your own topic for those tagged people

1. My hair's texture is slightly wavy and I'm prone to having flyaway ends if I don't condition my hair properly. I also get frizz sometimes, which I combat with a drop of organic shine serum.

2. I wash my hair every alternate day with a deep moisturizing shampoo and condition with a hair mask. I also make sure to comb out my hair before sleeping and apply alittle hand cream to the dry areas. If my hair/scalp gets alittle oily, I'll spray on and comb out with a dry shampoo (review coming soon!)

3. I curl my hair with a normal, cheap Philips hair curler and adjust the barrel size according to how much my hair has grown out from its last cut. The longer the time from the cut, the smaller the barrel to get the curl and the longer I clamp my hair down with the curler. I straighten my hair on lazy/normal days with a cheap Watsons brand hair straightening iron. Not that great but it neatens everything though I still get kinks along my shoulder area

4. To retain my curls through the day, I spray a crazy load of hairspray on my hair to combat the humidity. My hair literally became crunchy in the past, but I've cut down from before as it caused alot of breakage. Now it's just alittle stiff

5. My favourite hair colours that I've done on myself were my recent red hair, my platinum blonde and the faded pink hair I got when my purplish/pink/red hair washed out ages ago.

6. I have no idea how to backcomb my hair till I can actually get the Agejo style pouff at the crown, my arms get too tired even after alittle while of backcombing. I also don't know how to get the side braids/dreads that the Ora Ora girls do so well. I've been wanting to get it done for awhile now.

7. I brush my hair out every night with a boar bristle brush and comb through with a ox horn comb. They contain natural ions that help me get shiny hair with less frizz and minimal products.

7. I plan to get my hair done soon, but considering I'm still job-less and uncertain bout which industry I'll be going to, I'll probably just dye my hair a safe chocolate brown or something. That way, I won't be forced to change my hair colour if I wind up in a corporate environment.

I'm not going to tag other people for this since most of the time when I do tag, I am mostly ignored. So if you wanna do it, just let me know. Hmm... since the topic this time is hair, perhaps my choice of topic will be "Makeup", but it's really up to whoever who wants to take up the challenge.

Will be updating bout my night out with Steph to see the CyberJapan girls soon, but if you can't wait, just head to her blog first. She's already done her post.

Going to sleep now... perhaps sleep will help me forget my emotional turmoil for just abit.

Shibuya Gals (First Ever Gyaru Meetup)

Mandom Corp. The people behind Tsubasa's Dollywink line and other great beauty and hairstyling products organized the first ever gyaru meet up session last Saturday.

The event was led by nine gyaru senseis who had been chosen to do makeovers on their "students". Fabulous Steph was one of the senseis so I joined the event to support her, and due to some issues, I also winded up as her student to showcase her makeover skills hahaha.

Steph, event organizer Yun Wen, Hana and I posing for a picture before the start of the event. I had to go to the event without my makeup for the makeover so my eyes look really small in this picture :/

Steph doing makeup on me. I'm pretty glad that I became her student for the event as her makeup style is pretty different from mine so it was fun trying out a new style and seeing how different I look as compared to my usual style.

The many people who turned up for the event

After the makeover. Steph used grey eyeshadow on me and stacked 2 Dollywink lashes and glued them above my natural lashline. However the lashes aren't really visible in the pic as the ones mostly available were from the Otome series, so they're geared more towards natural makeup. She also used orange blush & nude lipgloss on me, I haven't used those cosmetics in months!!!

Camwhored with some other gyaru girls at the event. The one the left is Denise aka Cutepetz who was also a gyaru sensei, while the other girl on the right pic is Cammie. They are also both members of the local gyaru circle, Sparkling Cottoncandy and Denise is in fact one of the founders. Funny thing is that all three of us are also cosplayers hahaha.

A lovely picture of the gyaru senseis, isn't it nice to see a variety of gyaru styles all at the same time?

A picture of all the participants of the event

Here's a better look at the outfit I wore for the event, I decided to wear a more rokku style outfit to showcase a different gyaru style as I know most local girls tend to prefer the more floral and hime style.
Inner Zip Camisole: Tutuha
Red Top: Tutuha
PVC Shorts: Stolen from my Freya cosplay outfit  (LOL!!)
Stockings: Can't remember
Boots: Taobao (I tossed them after that day as the sole fell off, good bye my dear boots, you had served me well)
Necklace: Lip Service
Rings: Rubi & random blogshop
Bracelet: Taobao
Cap: Taobao
Wig: Prisila (my hair colour is pretty messed up currently)

There was a lucky draw consisting of individualised makeup pouches designed by the nine gyaru senseis, unfortunately I wasn't lucky enough to get one, but the organizers did give me a little goodie bag. I received a tray of Decorative lower lashes, a tube of Dollywink lash glue and a Candydoll nail polish all neatly packaged in a cute pink polka dotted paper bag

I think my outfit is rather over the top but I was feeling incredibly deprived of dressing up in full gyaru so I went all out with it. I need to lose alittle more weight so that the Tutuha top fits better but I'm glad that my exercise regime is showing some results as the zip camisole isn't as form-fitting as the last time I wore it, so I shall be using these clothes as gauges in my weight loss!

The event was pretty fun as I managed to meetup with some old friends as well as meeting new ones, I'm just alittle sad that not many people are as keen to try other gyaru styles such as rokku or onee gyaru let alone ones that are more out there such as ora-ora, but baby steps I guess. It's still nice to see more people embracing this style and more people turning up for events as time goes on.

Tagged & Majolica Majorca Glass Drop Gel Top Coat

Doing this little questions thing after being tagged by Steph, because she threatened facial disfigurement and bodily harm if I didn't do it (nah, just kidding... I figured it might show alittle bit more of me to my readers).

The rules:

-Link the person who tagged you.

-Answer the questions.

-Tag 11 other people.

-Ask the tagged ones 11 questions.

-Inform the tagged people

The questions:

1. What do you drink while you are blogging?
Nothing most of the time.. the few times will be water or Coke zero if I want something sweet

2. Which Dashboard you use - old or new one?
The old version

3. What is your favourite colour?
Depends on my mood, most of the time it'll be purple, black, pink or red

4. Have you got Pen Pals? If not, would you like to have one?
I used to have pen pals, and yea I'd definitely love to write letters again

5. Dress, skirt or trousers?
Dress

6. What makes you easily smile?
Most things. I smile alot and very easily

7. What is your greatest obsession?
I don't really obsess bout stuff

8. What is your daily routine?
Depends alot. If I don't have plans, I'll be home lazing around, doing school assignments & taking care of Dusky. If I do go out, I have a whole ritual involving dressing up, putting on makeup & doing my hair.

9. Which colour has the number 1 for you?
Must I choose? I can't decide between pink & purple. Pink creeps into my life, I have no idea why I have so many pink stuffs but I'm partial to purple for being able to be dark yet feminine at the same time

10. What was the last movie you watched and liked?
Howl's Moving Castle, and it will always have a permanent place in my heart

11. What are your future plans?
Plan a graduation trip with friend/s and get a decent job after graduation

I don't feel like imposing myslef on anyone and forcing them to do this questions and tagging thingy, so if any of my readers takes up the challenge, remember to drop me a comment/link and I'll definitely check yours out!

Since this is a rather short post, I'll toss in a quick review of Majolica Majorca's Galss Drop Gel Coat:

Took this pic off Yesstyle.com as I seem to have lost my own picture of the top coat in its pristine condition

It's a top coat with an exception, it produces a really lovely shiny look reminiscent of a gel or gelish style manicure. This top coat helps to make your DIY nail polish look expensive and professionally done! It dries pretty fast too, so I haven't experienced any messes with it yet. My only gripe is that after bout 3-4 days, my nail polishes start to crack and chip apart so with lighter colours, the cracks are more obvious then darker colours or glitter polishes. However, that's something I can live with since I usually change my nail polish after a week or so.

It's thick consistency makes it easy to apply and spread around your nail, only one coat is needed for each finger. For the price of $14.50, it's alittle pricier then normal top coats but it's truly worth its price and I doubt I'll ever use other top coats ever again if they continue its production.

Korean Press-on Cheek & Eyemake Set

I first read about this amazing Cheek & Eyemake press-on makeup set from this blog: http://yuk-lui.blogspot.com and was so amazed and by it that I just had to blog about it.

I'm sure you've all heard about instant eyesadows before, it seems that Avon & L'oreal have produced their own versions of it. However, the Grandma of press on eyeshadow was called eye majic and was featured ages ago in Oprah Winfrey's show. Well in case you haven't or if you need a refresher, it looked like this:

It was simply 2 sponge applicators on a tray with the eyeshadow nicely stuck on it. All you had to do was position it nicely on your eyelid and then press it down for a couple of seconds and presto! nicely done eyeshadow! I remember using it back when my local Sasa sold it and my mom went nuts and bought lots of it for her "lazy" days. It was kindda pricey though, so I stopped purchasing it after awhile and it slowly disappeared off the shelves.

I remember thinking to myself, "if only it could be used more then once, what a great way to apply shadow for lazy people or people learning to apply makeup for the first time!" Well, it seems that a korean brand, Chosungah Luna, had the same ideas and have produced their own version that is reusable AND it pushes the boundaries further by including a highlighter and blush version too!

This is how the set is supposed to look like. It comes with 2 shadows, a blush and highlighter combination and 3 sponge applicators.

The different sponge applicators for each of the shadows

The 2 options that are available so far. I'm liking the shadows for both sets so far but I'm not quite sure about the blush and highlighter combination. I especially like how they offer one neutral eyeshadow and one heavier style.

It seems fairly easy to use, just dip the sponge applicator on the shadow, making sure to press down on both sides to pick up the shadow evenly, and then I guess you'll just press it onto your eyelid.

I'm loving this idea alot and am seriously considering asking my friend who's visitng Korea next month, to try and get a palette for me to try it out. However, the main thing that is holding me back is the cheek print. I always figured that the application of blush and highlighter was a rather personal thing, as you had to learn what was best for contouring your face since no face is ever alike and different bone structures requires different areas of focus.

However, it is tempting me alot as I'm trying to imagine the possibilities of it cutting down the time spent on my eye makeup and no longer having to fret at finding the different shadows to mix around and fiddling with a makeup brush when I am trying to rush out the door.

Oh well, I have bout a week or 2 to decide if I wanna bug my friend to find it in Korea for me. If I do get it, you can be sure to expect a review of it!

Steph's Indefinite Break & Blog Award

Hey everybody, I know some of you have been kindda wondering what my friend and fellow blogger, Steph of Cosmic Love blog been up to lately. Well, she's been pretty much bogged down by her work lately, so even when her urges to blog does strike, she's often left too tired and brain-dead to actually gather up the energy to write up a post.

So just be patient, because I'm pretty sure when she's back at posting, her posts will definitely be worth the wait!

Skin & Hair Care Meme

Mitsu of Universal Doll did a recent post about her skin and haircare which I've honestly been wanting to do for awhile now, it's just that I've had too many things on my mind, hence it kept being pushed back. But no more! So here's my breakdown of my skin and hair care products:

Firstly, I have sensitive and combination skin, so I have to be careful and selective about using products, the less artificial stuff, the better. I also breakout alot when I'm PMSing and am stressed out, so I need to keep my skin in check during those times.

These would be cleansing and makeup removal items:

Biore Cleansing oil => It removes even waterproof mascara easily, so not much tugging or pulling of the skin needed. Best part is skin is, left feeling light and refreshed with zero clogged pores.

Biore Foaming Facial Wash (light) => A light foaming facial wash that removes impurities without drying the skin out, its also safe for my sensitive skin.

My nightly skincare ritual consists of:

Hada Labo Hydrating Lotion => A gentle lotion/toner that doesn't sting even if it gets into my eyes or if I apply it onto a just popped zit

Hada Labo Hydrating Milk => This moisturizer is bit too rich for me, so after using this bottle up, I'll probably switch back to my slightly pricier, but lighter Skin Food Herb Salad Moisturizer. But it does moisturize alot despite using only a small penny's worth on my face and neck.

Skin Food Avocado Firming Eye Cream => Helps my puffy eyes and zaps all the moisture back in after I rub my eyes. Without it, my eyes would feel tired and dry and probably have deeper lines as I have a habit of rubbing my eyes too much.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil => I use this as a natural spot combatant, just a few drops over a zit and alittle patience and most would disappear within a few days. The smell is really soothing too.

The Body Shop Black Velvet Apricot Lipbalm => My current lipbalm. It's moisturizing without being too rich and the best pa[rt is that it doesn't affect lip[ colours when I apply it before putting lipstick and gloss. My only gripe is that there's no SPF but the yummy smell and smooth texture still wins me over.

Hada Labo Hydrating Masks => This is a weekly treat or before an event. Its deeply moisturizing and my face appears more even and radiant the next day.

Now for my hair, I have naturally thick yet slightly wavy hair, so it doesn't exactly behave how I want it to, not to mention I am constantly in combat with flyaway hair and an oily scalp which is pretty ironic since either cure would cause the other to worsen over time. So I've learnt to deal with them with a cocktail of products:

L'oreal Nutrigloss (Light) => Shampoo that strips away most oil and impurities, one wash of this rids me of all of my hairspray. It's also the reason for my shiny hair, so no need for shine spray!

Asience Nature Smooth Conditioner => Conditions hair without leaving a layer of oil on my scalp plus it helps to detangle hair ends. This is a must especially if I styled my hair as the hairspray, curling and teasing zap all moisture out of my hair leaving it brittle and dry.

Just before bed:

L'oreal Total Repair Night Essence => I apply this every alternate day, to deal with my flyaway hair, but because it conditions quite deeply, I only use a tiny amount.

Bone/Horn Comb => This is made from the horn/bone of a water buffalo, so it's supposed to have alot of natural ions in it to deal with frizz and misbehaving hair. I find my hair is smoother, softer, silkier and more behaved after using this to comb thru my hair.

For styling:

Liese Styling Water for Tongs/Straighterner => I use this to mist my hair before using my curling tongs, it helps to prevent the tongs from frying my hair

Lucidol Hair Spray Super Hard => This is my favourite hair spray of all time, I tried plenty of hair brands before settling on this one. It keeps my curls in check all day, which is an amazing feat considering my country's weather is humid all year round. I use only this and nothing else and my hair still looks good at the end of the day, just a little drooping.

As you can see, my selection of skin and hair care products all can be found within the drugstore aisles, so it goes to show that fancy names don't always mean fancy products. For me, as long as the products work, I am usually quite content.

Anyway, alittle tip, sub brands of major brands like Happy Bath from Kose, tend to benefit as they get all the same information as the expensive brand, but needn't pay for the reasearch bill, so you're getting nearly the same level's worth of quality be it of the major brand or its subsidiary.
